Hannah James and Sam Sweeney24 Sep 10
location: Ring'o'Bells
Recently nominated for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Hannah James and Sam Sweeney are clearly a duo on the rise. But they are no strangers to each other having performed together since their teens in the four-piece Kerfuffle. In 2009 they quickly cemented their reputation as rising stars with debut album “Catches and Glees”.
Hannah has a superb voice and is a step dancer in the award winning act The Demon Barber Roadshow. Sam plays fiddle and Northumbrian pipes and is a member of in Bellowhead. As a duo they have great energy and an infectious spontaneity.
‘Hannah and Sam enthralled a packed house with their playing, singing and dancing – all performed with a disarming wit and charm.’

Megson8 Oct 10
location: Ring'o'Bells
Someone in our audience suggested that Megson were a “must book”. Stu and Debbie Hanna hail from Teeside. Having now heard them I am really excited about having them at Nailsea. A young, fresh and highly acclaimed duo, who perform live great energy and musicality. Superb arrangements and stunning harmonies. Given Debbie has a degree in music and postgraduate distinction as a soprano and Stu has produced albums for Seth Lakeman and Show of Hands it is not surprising they are so good.

Fay Hield Trio3 Dec 10
location: Ring'O'Bells
Fay came to fame with the Witches of Elswick and then took time out to complete her PhD and discover motherhood. Now she is returning with Ron Harbron (concertina: Enlgish acoustic collective) and Sam Sweeney (fiddle: Kerfuffle and Bellowhead). They serve a spicy stew of songs!
Instrumentation includes fiddles, concertina, nyckelharpa, symphonie and guitar. The sound is at once crafty and nimble, airy and graceful, full of zest and nuance, sensitive to the tradition yet utterly distinctive. Fay leads with a voice whose rough edges are still thrillingly intact, and which goes straight to the living heart of the songs.
The Trio’s first outing, at the Oxford Festival in 2009, was flagged up approvingly by Acoustic Magazine as that mag’s Gig Of The Month:
"Fay’s strong voice, with soft, comforting northern tones, delivered songs from the length and breadth of the country… Contained within a festival bursting at the seems with talent, this performance really stood out as one of the highlights."
